About Bear Stitches of Vermont
Welcome to Bear Stitches !
Louise and I never tire of the color and natural grandeur surrounding our lives in Vermont. We love creativity, hard work and sewing fabric into bags of many styles. We have both loved creating from our earliest memories. Our happiest memories from our childhood range from Louise sewing with her mother, or me learning to crochet from my grandmother. Our latest act of creativity, Bear Stitches, emerged from a conversation over a cup of coffee, talking about what to do with a new “stash” of fabric given to us by a designer friend, Cindy Moylan owner of Derby Paint and Paper.
The best way to describe who we are, is to explain the origin of our name “ Bear Stitches,” and our logo, “Everything We Create Makes Traveling Easier !” We share a love of animals and, like BEARS found in Vermont, we are protectors. We want to protect our families, our environment, and the many wonderful qualities of our country. We protect our environment by using some upcycled and eco-friendly organic fabrics. We protect jobs and women by crafting our products in America; allowing us to offer opportunity to women whose prior jobs, as artisan sewers, were lost to overseas production. We hope to protect families by working with Homes for Our Troops. We are especially grateful to the women and men who have served in the armed forces over the history of America. Louise’s son served two tours of duty in Iraq, and was fortunate for his safe return home. However, many women and men did not have that experience. Therefore, Bear Stitches will donate 5% of their sales to Homes For Our Troops. This wonderful organization is responsible for building homes for disabled veterans.
The definition of STITCHES “is to make, mend or join.” Certainly, as women, there is not a day that passes, that we are involved in making, mending or joining. Whether it is in the crafting of our products, the mending of a problem, or the joining of our ideas, we are constantly involved with “stitches.”
Our logo is , “Everything We Create Makes Traveling Easier!” Traveling, although a pleasurable pass-time, has become difficult in many was. We wanted to create a product that would make your traveling easier, and more enjoyable. Even if we are not traveling for pleasure, as human beings we are always on a journey. Our mission, is to make your journey a little easier. We look forward to being part of your journey.
